Emir of Daura’s brother, 2 others die in auto crash

Alhaji Abdullahi Umar Maitaro, the younger brother of Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Faruk Umar, is dead. He was 57.

Maitaro and two of his friends died in a fatal road accident at Muduru village along Katsina/Daura Road on Sunday, while one other, who sustained injuries is receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

Witnesses said two vehicles, including that of the deceased had a head-on collision, while attempting to dodge a tricyclist who suddenly made a u-turn in front of them.

Governor Aminu Masari, accompanied by the Special Adviser on Higher Education, Dr. Bashir Ruwangodiya, and other top government officials were in Daura on Monday to condole with the Emir over the loss.

The governor also visited the residences of the other two deceased persons where he condoled with their families.

Similarly, the Katsina State Deputy Governor, Alh Mannir Yakubu, who is also the Commissioner for Agriculture, led a delegation on Tuesday to condole the emir.

Until his death, Maitaro was a director at the Katsina State Ministry of Agriculture. He was survived by one wife and eight children.
