The Emir of Biu, HRH Umar Mustapha Aliyu, passed away on Monday night in Biu, headquarters of Biu local government area in southern part of Borno state, a family source said.
He was 80, and died after an undisclosed illness.
“Ya Allah bring solace to his family and the Entire People of Biu emirate. We really lost a pillar,” the source said.
He is to be buried on Tuesday within his palace in Biu town, the source said.
Borno’s information and culture commissioner, Babakura Abba-Jato, confirmed the death.
He said the emir had “answered the call of Allah.”
“He will be laid to rest in Biu at 2pm today [Tuesday] according to palace source may his soul rest in perfect peace,” Abba-Jato said.
