Emir of Argungu becomes Chancellor of Federal University of Health Sciences, Azare

The Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Sama’ila Muhammad Mera, has been appointed as the Chancellor of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Azare (FUHSA) in Bauchi State.

The traditional ruler was the pioneer chancellor of the university established in 2021.

Speaking at his investiture ceremony in Azare, the monarch pledged his commitment to the promotion of the activities of teaching, learning and research in the newly established medical institution for the benefit of all Nigerians and humanity at large.

He said, “I have accepted this appointment as a challenge and wish to assure you that I will work with all necessary commitment and sincerity of purpose in providing the university the much needed wisdom of a father by contributing to the peace, tranquility and rapid development of the university.

“In addition to the ideals of producing knowledgeable, skilled and value-oriented quality health and medical professionals who will be available to strengthen institutions’ capacity for health services, we need to also research into traditional healthcare practices of our people with a view to modernising them in line with the scientific principles,” the  emir said.

Earlier in his remarks, the Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Health Sciences, Azare, Professor Bala Muhammad Audu, explained that the appointment of the Emir of Argungu as Chancellor of the University was based on his track record, and expressed belief that he would move the university forward.

Similarly, a total of 928 students for the 2023/2024  academic session of the university have been matriculated with the call on them to abide by all rules and regulations of the institution.

The Federal University of Health Sciences, Azare offers 10 courses in health sciences-related matters and was established with a view to addressing the wide manpower gap in the health system of Nigeria.
