Vice-Chancellor of Bingham University, Karu, Prof. William Barnabas Qurix, has told the 1500 newly admitted students that they must embrace the challenges that lie ahead of them.

Speaking at the 19th matriculation ceremony of the varsity on Wednesday, Prof Qurix said it is through overcoming challenges that they would truly discover their strengths.

He said having conferred the oath of studentship, the university will give them endless opportunities to help them develop important life skills.

“Your academic journey, is a journey that will be filled with challenges, triumphs, and countless opportunities for growth and development. I heartily congratulate you all for achieving success in getting a seat at this prestigious university,” he said.

“The University has not only maintained stable academic calendar but also strives to implement ideal educational practices within a serene environment. Emphasising self-reliance among graduates, the university places focus on entrepreneurial-backed education.”

The Vice-Chancellor disclosed that over 7,000 candidates applied to the university this year, out of which 1, 500 were granted admission to study various courses.

He gave the breakdown, Faculty by Faculty as follows, Pharmaceutical Sciences 105, Basic Medical Sciences, 200, Clinical Sciences, 85, Health Sciences, 354, Arts, 27, Social Sciences, 110, Science and Technology, 31, Law, 94, Education, 19 and Environmental Science,17.

Others are Administration,108, Architecture, 58, Communication & Media Studies, 57, and Computing Science, 235.

Guest Speaker, Rhoda Mundi, a Professor of Population and Development at University of Abuja, urged the newly admitted students to identify their talents to reflect and build on the existing skills.

She also advised parents to allow their children choose a career of their choice, the one they have passion for and will give them joy.
