Electricity workers shut PHCN offices in Lagos, Kaduna, Illorin

Pensioners of the former government utility in Lagos have also vowed to keep sleeping at the premises of the company until their pensions are paid.
The workers under the aegis of the Nigeria Union Electricity Employees (NUEE) barricaded the premises of the PHCN offices as early as 6am and disrupted business activities.
Also in Kaduna, the workers sealed off the zonal office of the PHCN.
The Kaduna office oversees the distribution of electricity to Birnin Kebbi, Zamfara, Sokoto and Kaduna states. Some workers told Daily Trust there will be total blackout in those states if their entitlement and other demands are not paid.
The brandished placards reading: “Jonathan please don’t sell the cars with the driver. It is never done anywhere in the world,” “No full payment of severance, no hand-over,” “PDP kill PHCN.”
In Illorin, the capital of Kwara state, it was the same protest by the workers.
Daily Trust reports that the placard-carrying workers locked up the PHCN offices at Challenge and Baboko business units as early as 8am stalling the day’s activities as customers who came to pay their bills were prevented from doing so.
Chairman of the Lagos Marina chapter of NUEE Comrade Segun Afolohunso decried the non-completion of the entitlement of the workers.
According to him, only 25 percent of the workforce of the company has been paid.
He said the workers would use every legitimate means to get the Federal government pay what is due to them.
He said it will be very risky for the workers to expect the new owner to pay the entitlement as they may claim that they are not financially indebted to the workers.
