The management of Osun State University has warned students and staff of the institution against vote trading and election violence.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Clement Adebooye, gave the warning at the 16th matriculation ceremony of the institution in Osogbo, the state capital, where 6,750 freshers took their matriculation oath.
Adebooye urged the students to vote for candidates of their choice during the exercise as patriotic citizens.
The VC asked students of the university to proceed on vacation from Wednesday, February 22 till March 15 2023 to enable them participate in the elections.
According to him, “I urge the students to vote their conscience during the election and not involved in vote buying. Let us make this country work. Don’t be use to perpetrate election violence.”
“Our university is closing for elections and students will be away till March 15, we have also decided to allow our staff be out of work on Thursday and Friday so that they will have opportunity to travel to different places where they registered to vote.”
He also warned the students to stay away from cultism and hooliganism and shun illicit sexual relationship, saying that such may lead to expulsion.
