President Muhammadu Buhari and the presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar and other presidential candidates have signed the second National Peace Accord for the forthcoming elections.
The event organised by National Peace Committee held at the International Conference Centre (ICC), Abuja with the candidates, pledging to ensure that the elections are conducted peacefully.
Chairman of National Peace Committee, former Head of State, Abdulsalami Abubakar, urged the candidates to adhere religiously to the spirit of the peace accord.
He urged the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) and the security agencies to abide by their oath of office.
Also speaking, former Head of State, Yakubu Gowon urged the candidates to counsel their supporters against violence and intimidation
“Speak directly to your supporters, let us have peaceful elections and let us respect the observers,” he said.
Also speaking, the representatives of international communities, said the world is watching Nigeria and urged the candidates to place the country’s interest above theirs.
