Elders’ forum in Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State has kicked against the installation of Methuselah Adamu as the new third-class traditional ruler of Kwararrafa chiefdom by the state government.
Spoke person of the forum, Hamman Tukur Kawu Hammanjam, Saturday at a press conference said the creation of Kwararrafa Chiefdom in 2019 and the appointment of late John Agbu Tsokwa as a third-class chief by the Taraba State government was opposed and rejected by the forum.
He said the creation of the new chiefdom and subsequent appointment of a chief was rejected because creating a new chiefdom out of Gassol chiefdom was improper.
Hammanjam said the issue culminated in a legal tussle instituted by the forum against the Taraba State Government at the State High Court Jalingo to compel the government to revert its decision and maintain the status quo.

The forum however expressed dismay that in spite of the interim injunctions which was served on all the defendants, the Taraba State Government “flagrantly disobeyed the court order” and went ahead to appointed Methuselah as the new third-class chief of Kwararrafa chiefdom.
The forum urged people of the area to remain calm and be law-abiding.
He assured the people that the elders’ forum was doing everything possible to ensure the status quo was maintained in Gassol 1 Constituency in connection with the creation of Kwararrafa Chiefdom and appointment of a paramount ruler.
