Various sources at the Kaduna Government House have debunked rumours that the state governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai has been involved in a car crash.
As early as 10:00am on Thursday, social media was awash with the rumour, that the state governor’s convoy was involved in a fatal crash while on its way back from Kano which left the governor in critical condition while his driver was said to have lost his life in the crash.
Checks by our correspondent in Kaduna however revealed that the governor did not travel to Kano but is currently out of the country.
Sources close to the governor said the source of the story has been traced to a lady who is not even in Kaduna.
The Special Adviser to governor Nasir El Rufai, Muyiwa Adekeye, also dismissed the rumour.
Adekeye on his verified Twitter handle @MuyiwaAdekeye, said the governor was at a post-election reception in Kaduna when he was said to be in Kano and that there is no truth to the rumour about his accident.
He said, “The hatred that moves people to peddle lies, concoct rumours of accidents and try to pass off their ill-will as God’s doing is a burden on those who have permitted reason to exit their minds and have given their hearts to a constricting narrowness.
“While Malam Nasir @elrufai was at post-election receptions in Kaduna on Sunday night, some liars placed him in Kano. Now, they are spreading tales that he was involved in a fatal accident. Hatred is not a political strategy!”
Our correspondent learnt that the governor departed Abuja on Wednesday for Dubai aboard Emirate airlines flight and is being expected back in the country early next week.
