El-Kanemi shock Nasarawa Utd again to earn first away win since 2019

El-Kanemi Warriors have defeated fellow strugglers, Nasarawa United 2-1 in the early kickoff of the Match Day 12 fixture of the 2022/23 Nigeria Premier Football League Saturday at the New Jos Stadium to earn their second win of the season.

Interestingly, Nasarawa United had lost by the same scoreline to El-Kanemi Warriors in the first stanza of the league

The Solid Miners started brightly as their first chance fell to King Osanga who wimped in a cross to Chinedu Ohanachom who could not guide the ball home.

The home side continued mounting pressure on their visitors in the early stages of the game but were stunned in the 27th minute when El-Kanemi’s Ugochukwu Ujah benefited from a poor pass from Emeka Onyema to chin the ball over Galadima Mohammed in goal for United to lead 1-0.

Stunned by the goal, the hosts mounted pressure on their visitors and their efforts paid off when Ohanachum was fouled in the box on his way to goal.

The resulting penalty was converted cooly by James Isaac in the 36th minute as Nasarawa United levelled the scoreline going into half-time.

At the restart of the second half, both team who are swimming in relegation waters sought a much-needed winner and with a minute to go in the regulation time, Nasarawa United were shocked as Jacob Jonathan scored in the 89th minute as El-Kanemi secured all three points.

It will be noted also that following this win, El-Kanemi Warriors have recorded their first points and win on the road this season. It is their first away win in the NPFL since a 1-0 win at Gombe United in March 2019.

Meanwhile, the Player and Goal of the Month award in the Nigeria Premier Football League for March has been suspended due to a shortage of fixtures last month.
