Managing Director of the company, Engr. Oladele Amoda, who disclosed this during the courtesy visit by management of Eko Electricity Distribution Company to the GOC 81 Division of the Nigerian Army Major General Tammy Dibi, in Lagos, last week, added that the current one that was dogged by complaints from customers.
He explained that the new smart meters would be issued to customers so as to eliminate all forms of controversy and customers distrust associated with the present billing system.
He said the pilot scheme of the new system was already being carried out in one of the eleven Business Districts of the company, adding that so far, it has proven to be effective. According to him, the new system would commence with industrial customers on very high energy consumption before it would be introduced to residential and commercial customers.
Amoda said the the privatisation of the electricity industry was borne out of the realisation that government alone could not be able to tackle the challenges of inadequate power supply in the country. Responding, the 81 Division GOC, Major General Tibi…… appealed to the company to ensure a total shift from the old system in order to win customer’s confidence.
