Ekiti State Government has promised to continue to give adequate attention to the welfare of People living with Disabilities (PWDs) in the state.

Senior Special Assistant to Governor Kayode Fayemi, on Disability Matters, Mr Tunde Ogunrinde, made the promise at an empowerment programme organised for PWDs.

Ogunrinde noted that as part of government’s efforts towards the welfare of people living with disabilities, the Office of Disability Affairs was established to look after their welfare.

According to him, Governor Fayemi had also signed the disability bill into law and also appointed a member of the PWDs as Senior Special Assistant on Disability Matters.

”All these are to demonstrate the love of the state government to the PWDs. And I am complementing these efforts by organising this empowerment programme for the PWDs,” the aide to the governor said.

Ogunrinde advocated for the use of transparent nose mask to aid communication by deaf and hard of hearing people in the society.

A cash sum of N5,000 was given to each of the 32 PWDs present at the event. One of the beneficiaries, Yinka Owolabi, commended the governor’s aide for the gesture.

70-year-old albino, Mr Oyinbo Orekunrin, commended the state government for its support for the PWDs in the state.
