The Governorship Candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Engr. Segun Oni, has alleged vote buying in the ongoing Ekiti governorship election.

Oni, who made the allegation shortly after he cast his vote at the ward 2 unit 6, Ifaki Ekiti, said the irregularities are ongoing in Ado and Oye Ekiti respectively.

“I was just informed that there is vote buying in Ado and Oye Ekiti. This is not allowed by the law of the land. I want the security agencies, especially the EFCC officials, to move to the areas and stop it,” he said.

The former governor of the state also dismissed the rumour that he has withdrawn from the governorship race.

Our correspondent reports that Oni arrived at the polling unit alongside his wife, Kemi.

The couple did not encounter problems with accreditation and other voting processes at the polling unit.

The election is ongoing across the 16 local government areas of the state. Although there are 16 candidates in the election, it is a battle, essentially, among three parties – the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC); the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); and the SDP.

While the APC is fielding the immediate past Secretary to the Ekiti State Government, Biodun Oyebanji, as its candidate, the PDP has its former state chairman, Bisi Kolawole, as its flag-bearer, while the standard-bearer of the SDP, Oni, is a former governor of the state.
