The Ekiti State government has approved the payment of N546.9 million to cover the cost of the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for all 16,269 students enrolled in public secondary schools within the state.
The Commissioner for Education, Dr Bimpe Aderiye, disclosed this during a press briefing in Ado Ekiti, the state capital, yesterday.
Dr Aderiye emphasised that public secondary schools in the state are not permitted to collect any registration fees for the examination.
She warned that any attempt by officials of these schools to demand fees would be considered an act of sabotage.

Additionally, she cautioned parents and guardians against paying any unauthorised fees, as such actions undermine government policies and hinder efforts to improve the socioeconomic status of the populace.
