The Ekiti State Council of Obas on Monday set up a committee to investigate and resolve the battle of supremacy between the Ogoga of Ikere Ekiti, Oba Adejimi Adu and his rival and Olukere, Oba Ganiyu Obasoyin.
The committee, chaired by the chairman of the council and Ologotun of Ogotun Ekiti , Oba Samuel Oyebade, said the interaction with the two warring factions was aimed to prevent the looming anarchy in Ikere town.
The committee made up of the 16 leading monarchs in Ekiti called the ‘pelupelu’ held interactive meetings with the factions.
Ogoga, a first class traditional ruler and the Olukere had been embroiled in fierce supremacy battle with the former proclaiming the latter was a chief priest of the town rather than the kingship being arrogated to himself.
The interaction was conducted behind camera in the chambers of the council located within the old Governor’s office in Ado Ekiti and journalists were not allowed to cover the proceeding .
However, after the meeting the Olukere expressed confidence in the ability of the traditional rulers to be able to do justice to his case.
Oba Obasoyin maintained that he remained the founder and recognised king in the town contrary to position canvassed by Ogoga that he (Olukere) was a mere chief priest .
