Bishop Michael Fagun Foundation has constructed and handed over a study, skills and acquisition centre to the Nigerian Correctional Service, NCS, Ado-Ekiti Custodial Centre, in Ekiti State.
The Bishop Emeritus, Catholic Diocese of Ekiti, Most Rev. Michael Olatunji Fagun, while inaugurating the centre in Ado-Ekiti, said the structure was to enable the inmates to be useful to themselves and the society.
Fagun said the idea of putting in place the structure was to empower inmates to be self-reliant.
“It was in the process of correctional centre visitation that the project of empowering the inmates was conceived, that they be enabled to be useful to themselves and to the society through this workshop centre being commissioned.
“Despite our material poverty, we are moved by Christian charity to help others live decently”
Bishop Fagun solicited other public-spirited individuals to take a cue from the initiative and assist the less privileged in the society.
The Comptroller, Ekiti Correctional Centre, Mr. Joseph Ojo, commended the Bishop emeritus for the gifts while promising that the structure would be put to effective use.
He encouraged other non-governmental organisations and Individuals to collaborate with NCS in their reformative process and as well extend their corporate social responsibility to the inmates in order to build a sane and safe society.
