Gunshots were fired from the palace of the king of Ifaki, hometown of Chief Segun Oni, Candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the ongoing Ekiti governorship election.
During elections, sounds of gunshot usually signal violence, but in this case, it was to indicate that the king was awake.
The election is ongoing across the 16 local government areas of the state. Although there are 16 candidates in the election, it is a battle, essentially, among three parties – the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC); the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); and the SDP.
While the APC is fielding the immediate past Secretary to the Ekiti State Government, Biodun Oyebanji, as its candidate, the PDP has its former state chairman, Bisi Kolawole, as its flag-bearer, while the standard-bearer of the SDP, Oni, is a former governor of the state.
Oni would vote at Ward 4, Unit 6, Ifaki Ekiti.
