A magistrates’ court sitting in Ikere-Ekiti, Ekiti State, has sentenced a 23-year-old man, Emmanuel Ekundayo, to one year in prison for stealing students’ phones at the Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti.
Ekundayo, who claimed to be a student of a polytechnic in the state, pleaded guilty to the crime.
Earlier, the police said the defendant was arrested on July 17, during one of the 2022/2023 first semester examinations in the library’s lecture theatre while ransacking the bags of students who were writing examinations.

When the charge was read to him, he pleaded guilty, and the Magistrate, Dotun Omoteye, sentenced him to one year imprisonment with an option of a fine.
