Ekiti assembly amends state electoral law

Bill to provide adequate legal framework and to empower the state electoral commission to operate smoothly and in tandem with current realities.

Ekiti State House of Assembly has passed an amendment to the state electoral law.

The amendment tagged, “Ekiti State Independent Electoral Commission (third amendment) Bill, 2021,” was sponsored by a member representing Ekiti West Constituency II, Bode Adeoye.

The assembly, at the plenary presided by the Speaker Pro – Tempore, Gboyega Aribisogan, passed the bill after an extensive debate on the need for the amendment.

Adeoye explained that the bill due to the recent development as regards to creation of Local Council Development Areas (LCDA) in Ekiti State.

The amendment bill aimed to provide adequate legal framework and to empower the state electoral commission to operate smoothly and in tandem with current realities.

In their separate remarks, the Deputy Leader, Tajudeen Akingbolu; Adeoye Aribasoye and Raphael Ajibade said the bill would further enhance the work of the commission.

The lawmakers also passed a bill for a law to establish the Ekiti State Drugs and Health Supplies Management Agency and Other Matters Connected Therewith, following the submission of a report read by the Chairman, Committee on Health, Human Services and HIV/AIDS, Adeteju Okuyiga.

The bill seeks to establish an agency to ensure regular availability of quality drugs and health supplies at affordable costs to all health facilities in Ekiti State.

The report was committed to the committee of the whole house and was passed, and read by the Clerk of the House, Tola Esan, for the third reading.
