The Senate of the University of Ibadan on Monday appointed Prof Adebola Babatunde Ekanola as the acting Vice Chancellor of the university as directed by the Ministry of Education through the National Universities Commission (NUC).

The Public Relations Officer of the institution, Tunji Oladejo, who confirmed his appointment to Daily Trust, said the Senate appointed the Ibadan born professor during a voting process which took about two hours.

Oladejo said the Governing Council of the institution approved his appointment at its meeting on Monday following the recommendation of the Senate.

According to him, the Council meeting was presided over by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Nde Joshua Waklek Mutka.

Before his appointment, Prof. Ekanola served as the Deputy Vice–Chancellor (Academic), Director of Office of International Programmes (OIP) and the Dean, Faculty of Arts, among other appointments.

Ekanola is expected to act for the next six months and midwife the process of selecting a substantive VC.

Meanwhile, members of Senior Staff Association of Universities (SSAU) and the Non Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASUU) of the University of Ibadan yesterday jubilated as the tenure of the outgoing Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Idowu Olayinka, expired on Monday.
