The city of Abuja will come alive on Sunday, June 5 as over 28 teams from across Nigeria will trade tackles in the Ejike Ugboaja FC five-day scouting programme at the FIFA Goal Project, Package B of the MKO Abiola national stadium.
Consequently, over 500 talented young football players will be seeking the attention of scouts from Arsenal, Chelsea and other top European clubs that have confirmed their availability for the scouting programme.
Organiser of the talent hunt, Christopher Ejike Ugboaja who doubles as the chairman of Ejike Ugboaja FC has said the idea behind the exercise is to give Nigerian young players the opportunity to be scouted by these top clubs in Europe.
“As I keep saying, there are good players in Nigeria but the question has been who will help expose them to these foreign scouts? And that is the reason I came in to help.
“I reached the pinnacle of basketball as a player and I have helped over 2000 Nigerian basketball players and American footballers into schools in the USA and clubs so I thought it wise to replicate the same in football.
“We have concluded all arrangements concerning the programme. Our prayers are that they should be able to identify and sign as many players as possible, so that at the end, we would have empowered the young players because that is the reason behind the program,” said Ugboaja.
