A non-governmental organization, Ansar Al-Sunnah Society of Egypt, at the weekend completed treatment for over 14,000 patients suffering from different ailments in the Oke-Ogun area of Oyo State.
Hosted by the Al-Jassas Hospital and Diagnosis Centre, Saki, Oyo State, the organisation treated the less privileged in ailments like diabetes, arthritis, high blood pressure, surgical operation, eye defects, hypertension and fibroid.
The Managing Director, Al-Jassas Hosptial, Mr Mukaila Oluwaniyi, said the gesture arose from the yearning of the people for quality medical services “since governments at all levels have failed in their responsibility to provide access to quality health care.”
Oluwaniyi disclosed that the hospital agreed to free use of its facility, in collaboration with two other charitable organizations, Al-Azhar Sherif and Bir-Wataqwa Society of Nigeria, to support the less privileged in the society.
The head of the six-man medical team that participated in the two-week exercise, Professor Hemeda El-Sayed, explained that the visit was informed by the concern of the people for quality medical attention to their ailments.
The choice of Al-Jassas Hospital as their experimental base, El-Sayed added, was hinged on its modern equipment that was confirmed as suitable for identifying various diseases.
The hospital’s Chief Medical Director, Dr Adewale Sunday Adegoke, said about 750 patients registered for the exercise on the first day and the number kept increasing daily in 10 local governments.
Among those treated was a 70-year-old driver, Ganiyu Amao, from Kisi, in Irepo local government, who was suffering from high blood pressure.
