Egypt university holds Qur’an competition in Abuja

The expatriate teachers from Al-Azhar Shereef University, Cairo, Egypt, in conjunction with the embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt has pledged to sustain the Qur’an recitation competition in Nigeria.

The university gave the pledge on Sunday in Abuja at the closing ceremony of this year’s competition which attracted various categories of Qur’an memorisers from the FCT, Abuja.

It was held at the International Centre of Islamic Culture and Education (ICICE), An-Noor Mosque.

The event was attended by Mr Ayman Esmat, the Egyptian Consul Secretary, who represented the Ambassador of Egypt in Nigeria; Sheikh Zakariyya Al-azhari; Ustadh Abdallah Ahmad, Director, masjid da’wa and education ICICE and Imam Tamim Yusuf Alhasan of the Muslim Community Centre Jumu’ah masjid Zone 3, Abuja.

Speaking at the event, the Director-General, ICICE, Dr Kabir Kabo Usman, commended Al-azhar mission in Nigeria and urged students and Muslims, in general, to prioritise learning the Qur’an and Islamic knowledge.

The leader of Al-azhar Shereef mission in Nigeria, Sheikh Assayed El-Hasanain El-Moallim, who anchor the programme, said that part of their mission in Nigeria and the world at large is to spread the true teachings of Islam, free from misleading ideologies and extremism.

Also, another expatriate of Al-azhar Shereef mission in Nigeria, Sheikh Mahmood AbdelAzeem, stressed the importance of learning and understanding the Glorious Qur’an.

A similar competition was conducted in September at the Muslim Community Centre, Wuse Zone 3, Abuja, where various prizes were presented to the winners.
