Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, yesterday said seven of the eight Nigerians that participated in the #EndSARS protest in Egypt would be deported to Nigeria.

In a series of tweets, Dabiri-Erewa said after their arrest, they appealed to the commission to intervene and ensure their release.

“Update on the eight Nigerians detained in Cairo for protesting without a permit: The Egyptian authorities have said that seven out of the eight Nigerians who protested in Egypt on the 18th of October, will be deported to Nigeria for lack of resident permits/ visas.

“The only Nigerian among them who has residency will get final clearance from the Egyptian Interior Minister, Mahmoud Tawfik, after signing an undertaking not to be involved in unauthorized activities while still in the country,” she stated.

It would be recalled that the eight Nigerians were arrested in Cairo, Egypt, for protesting against police brutality and extra-judicial killings in Nigeria.
