The unending fuel scarcity and naira crunch in the country has affected students of Kwara State University and environs. Transportation which is believed to be a basic need for most students, lecturers and visitors of the university has been affected as most students and even lecturers find it difficult to convey themselves to school because there is scarcity of fuel and cash. Ironically, those who still run transport services have increased transport fares due to the cash crunch.

This unfortunate situation has resulted to  a number of students missing classes which will inevitably have a negative effect on their studies and scores at the end of the session.

Due to the cashless policy, POS operators have increased charges for every cash withdrawal because they too have had to buy cash to be able to remain in business.

This has affected the cost of living for many students who complain that this situation has taken a negative toll on their lives and studies.

Another devastating blow this cash crunch has thrown students into, is that most time the university runs on a generating set to supply electricity for students, however, the cashless policy has also affected this effort of the school.

The students though, hope that as exams approach stable electricity in the school will be restored so it can give them a conducive environment to read, especially at night.

Students they say are the future of every nation, however, it is apparent that those who brought this policy only looked at the immediate effect and not the long-term and negative effect it will have on the society, especially for students.

The relevant authorities should do the needful to see that the sufferings of the students are ameliorated.
