An official of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reportedly committed suicide in Abuja.

According to PRNigeria, the deceased was found dead at his residence in the Federal Capital Territory.

The deceased, whose name has not been revealed, is said to have been a member of Course 5 of the anti-graft agency’s academy, and was also reported to have been a hardworking, well organized, and productive officer of the anti-graft agency.

The operative battled depression and was said to have struggled with personal issues before his death.

Dele Oyewale, EFCC’s spokesperson, told journalists that the agency would investigate the circumstances that lead to the incident as well as provide support to the family of the deceased.

Oyewale added that the agency has been exploring possible factors, including mental health issues and family challenges, that may have contributed to the operative taking his life.

He insisted that the Commission would not issue any statement or release the identity of the officer until the conclusion of the investigation.
