EFCC arrests woman over employment scam

The Makurdi zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested one Patience Simon Robert for allegedly impersonating the commission’s officer and defrauding many people seeking employment into the EFCC and Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).

The suspect was arrested following a complaint by a victim from whom she allegedly collected N1.5 million under the pretext of securing jobs for his children in the EFCC.

Our correspondent learnt that the complainant also revealed that the suspect tricked his younger brother to part with the sum of N300,000 after promising to get his children employment in the NCS.

The EFCC said further investigation showed that the suspect had severally been arrested for impersonation and fraud by the police and other agencies and that she had also been charged to a magistrate court in Minna, Niger State, for impersonation and obtaining money under false pretence.

She allegedly obtained over N11 million from several victims with propositions of job offers in various agencies while parading herself as a staff of the EFCC.

Meanwhile, the EFCC’s spokesman in Makurdi office, Dele Oyewale, said the suspect would be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded.
