EFCC arraigns ex-banker for allegedly stealing N18m

The Benin zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), yesterday, arraigned one Philip Orumade, before an Edo State  High Court,  Benin City for allegedly stealing over N18 million from First Bank PLC.

Orumade was alleged to have stolen a cumulative sum of N18, 9 million from the bank ATM machine at Aduwawa branch of the bank in November 2019 while working there.

The prosecution counsel, Ibrahim Muhammed, said the offence was contrary to section 383 of Bendel State Criminal Code Law (as applicable to Edo state) and punishable under Section 390(7) of the same law.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him.

His counsel, Martha Imafu, urged the court to grant him bail, saying it is a bailable offence.

The prosecution counsel, Ibrahim Mohammed, prayed the court to fix a date for trial.

Justice Efe I. Ikponmwonba, however, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000  with one surety in like sum.

He said the surety should be resident within the jurisdiction of the court and adjourned till January 27, for trial.
