The Director-General, National Centre for Women Development (NCWD), Mary Ekpere-Eta, has called for the proper education and empowerment of the girl-child to enable her to take her place in society.
Ekpere -Eta who was speaking in Abuja yesterday at an event to mark the International Day of the Girl Child with the theme, “GirlsForce: Unscripted, Unstoppable, Empowering Girls for a Brighter Tomorrow”, said those who were once children are where they are today because they had been empowered.
She said when a girl is empowered, she grows up to become a successful wife and mother, adding that despite the diverse challenges, there is still the responsibility to show upcoming young girls the road to a successful and bright future.
She added that investing in the education of girls and ensuring that they remain in school is still the best option, as it would enable them to reach their dreams and better their livelihood.
The Minister of State for Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ramatu Tijani said wives and women were once the girl children of yesterday, but having been empowered and educated, many became what they are today.
