Protect your votes, be responsible, PDP charges Edo voters
By Ademola Adebayo
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has urged voters in today’s governorship election in Edo state to ensure that their collective will prevail and that their votes count.
A member of the party Prince Deji Adeyanju who spoke to Daily Trust in Edo state this morning said since accreditation and voting will be taking place simultaneously, it was imperative that voters come out early to exercise their franchise.
“I urge all voters to take steps as tiresome as they may seem to ensure they get to their respective polling units early enough and exhibit the highest sense of responsibility.
“They should ensure that their mobile phones and other devices are properly charged as this would enable them record any activities by anyone who attempts to disrupt the electoral process. Pictorial and video evidence would validate any assertions of wrong doing.
“They should also ensure that all electoral materials are accounted for. The Electoral Act (2010) as amended gives everyone the right to ask questions and receive answers from INEC staff in the various polling units. The Act places an obligation on all INEC staff to display all electoral materials and the voters’ register before the commencement of the voting exercise,” he said.
He urged voters to stay behind till the results of election have been declared and results pasted on the wall of their polling units.
While calling on voters to remain law abiding and peaceful during and after the elections, Mr. Adeyanju encouraged them to remain vigilant especially during the transit of electoral materials from the Ward Collation centres and then to the Local Government Collation centres.
