Edo@30: Don’t sabotage our democratic efforts, Shaibu begs residents

The Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, has urged residents of the state to shun every tendency of sabotaging democratic efforts spearheaded by governor Godwin Obaseki in the state.

Shaibu made this call on Friday in Benin in his goodwill message to mark the 30 years anniversary of Edo State.

He said: “Let us purge ourselves of every tendency to sabotage democratic efforts. Our collective task must be towards uniting the state by seeing one another in terms of value and usefulness”

He said the Obaseki-led administration had confronted the nagging socio-economic challenges that have hindered the development of the state since its creation and had set it on the path of continuous progress.

“We may not have gotten to our targeted destination but we are not where we used to be in terms of socio-economic and human capital developments.

“Governor Obaseki’s selfless leadership in the last four and half years has stabilized the economy of the state by building strong institutions rather than powerful individuals.

“We have integrated the rural and urban communities in the state through infrastructure development and extended opportunities to those that were previously cut off from governance.

“As a government, we shall continue to impact more lives and create better opportunities and expand the political space for greater participation of our people,” he said.
