Edo State has emerged winner of the maiden edition of the youth national Bible recitation competition held in Jos, Plateau state capital.
The competition which was organized by the Nigeria Bible Translation Trust (NBTT) had participants from across the country who passed through several stages, including winning at regional levels, before the grand finale in Jos.
17 year old Adegoke Peace Otinoyi who emerged the winner from Edo State scored 97.5 per cent to defeat Malum Nagatiti, Odelia Alpha and Robert Filibus from other zones/states.
Announcing the winner after tedious scrutiny job by the judges to determine the winner, the Executive Director of NBTT, Dr. Yakubu Lar said NBTT will grant scholarship to Otinoyi up to tertiary level in any higher institution in Nigeria, and will also guarantee him automatic job in NBTT after graduation.
“Our activities as a Trust have helped many communities to produce reading and writing system as well as literacy materials in their local languages,” he said.
He further explained that NBTT is working on over 140 Nigerian languages in its effort to promote the usage of the mother tongue amongst the Nigerian communities.
He called on the government at all levels to work in partnership with NBTT by sponsoring similar competitions annually to help in developing mother tongues literacy teachers across Nigeria.
