Edo train kidnap: Rescued victims rise to 6

Another kidnapped victim, out of the 32 kidnapped train station victims, has been rescued, bringing the total numbers of rescued victims to six persons.

Daily Trust had reported on Monday that five persons, two adults and three minors including a retired police officer were rescued by the security agencies in collaboration with vigilantes and hunters.

Addressing journalists yesterday in Benin, the Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Osa Nehikhare said  the six persons included a 65-year-old man, a nursing mother with her baby, a 6-year-old girl and two siblings; aged two and five years old.

He said one suspect involved in the train station kidnapping had been arrested while two others who had earlier been declared wanted by police had been arrested and were helping in the investigation.

Meanwhile, a former member of the Edo State House of Assembly, Festus Edughele, was alleged to have been kidnapped by gunmen in Edo State.

A former deputy speaker of the state House of Assembly, Festus Ebea, who confirmed the incident, said his former colleague intended to board the now suspended train service from Ubiaja to Abuja.

Similarly,  Mrs Precious Aigbonoga, a magistrate who is president of Igueben Area Customary Court in Igueben Local Government Area of Edo State, has been kidnapped.

Festus Osagie Usiobaifo, Publicity Secretary of Benin branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), who confirmed the incident, said Aigbonoga was kidnapped at the Ugoneki axis of Igueben LGA on Monday morning.
