Edo traditional ruler appeals for road construction

The monarch said if the roads were rehabilitated, they would alleviate the suffering of the people, especially during the peak of the rainy season.

The Enogie of Eyaen, in Uhunmwode Local Government of Edo State, Osazuwa  Aiwerioghene Iduriase, has appealed to the state Governor, Godwin Obaseki, to help construct the community’s roads so that they would be at peace during the rainy season.

The traditional ruler made the appeal when the leadership of the Correspondents’ Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council paid him a courtesy call in his palace.

“Now, the rainy season is fast approaching, majority of the areas that are presently passable will no longer be again.

“You won’t be able to drive out or go into your street because there is no erosion control. Both the footpath and the main road are the same  during the rainy season,” he said.

The monarch said if the roads were rehabilitated, they would alleviate the suffering of the people, especially during the peak of the rainy season.

According to him, what aggravates the erosion problem in the area was the blockage of the moat, which is a natural waterway in the area by developers who built houses on it.

“Without my authority, some persons went to cover the moat over a very long distance simply because I travelled out of the country. They took the advantage of it and blocked the moat and sell it to developers.”

The traditional ruler also appealed to the government to look at the development critically and take action to address it.

He urged the media to constantly remind government at all levels about their electioneering promises to the people.

The Chairman of the chapel, Nefishetu Yakubu, commended the traditional ruler for sustaining investment in education and tackling the problems of insecurity in his domain.
