Playing in the last round of matches at the Samson Siasia Sports Complex in Yenagoa Emem Essien gave Edo Queens the lead in the 29th minute and a late rally by the Yenagoa ladies who levelled through Zainab Olapade’s well taken free kick outside the box on 72nd minute was not enough to change the outcome of the encounter.

Elsewhere at the Nembe City Stadium in Nembe, Heartland Queens scored a stoppage time goal to spoil the party for Rivers Angels, ending the tie 1-1 in regulation time.

Olamide Adugbe had shot the Port Harcourt girls into the lead in the 72nd minute but Emmanuella James’ strike in the 90th minute was like a dagger to the hearts of Rivers Angels.

In a post-match news conference, an elated Coach of Edo Queens, Moses Aduku, said he was excited his girls clinched the title, promising to give Nigeria a befitting representation at the West Africa Football Union, WAFU Zone B tournament and ultimately the CAF Women’s Champions League.

Goal scorer for Edo Queens, Emem Essien said she was delighted that she helped her team to emerge champions of the highly contested title deciding tournament.
