Also, it was learnt that the suspect is a member of a notorious armed robbery gang that has been terrorising the area.
The spokesperson of the command, Chidi Nwabuzor, who confirmed the incident, said the suspect was killed at 4:45 am.
He said the Divisional Police officer in charge of the Ugbor division received a distress call that there was an ongoing armed robbery operation along Abuja quarters by Benson Idahosa University, Ugbor G.R.A, Benin-city.
He said the DPO personally led operatives to the scene intending to arrest the suspects but on sighting the police, the suspects engaged them in a gun battle, adding that in the process, one of the robbers was killed while others escaped.
Nwanbuzor said efforts are ongoing by the police to arrest the fleeing gang members.
He said one pump action gun and five live cartridges were recovered from the suspect.
While reinstating the command’s readiness and commitment to the fight against crimes and criminality in the state under CP Abutu Yaro’s leadership, he charged the people not to relent in availing the command with viable and prompt information to neutralise crime before it happens.
