Edo pensioner slumps during protest

A pensioner in Edo State yesterday slumped at the popular Ring Road in Benin City during a protest by the state’s chapter of the Retired Civil Servants Welfare of Nigeria (ARCSWON).

The ARCSWON members were protesting over unpaid pension, gratuities, non-harmonisation of pension, among other welfare issues.

City News reports that the slumped pensioner was rushed to the hospital by the union where he was resuscitated.

The protest caused gridlock on Ring Road and adjoining streets, hence commuters had to trek.

The spokesperson of ARCSWON, Yusuf Bako, said the protest was against illegal deductions from pension and other entitlements.
