Edo PDP expels Orbih, Shaibu, Ogbeide-Ihama

The leadership of the Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expelled the National Vice Chairman (South South) of the party, Chief Dan Orbih, from the party.

The party said it has also expelled the former deputy governor of the state, Comrade Phillip Shaibu, and Hon. Omorgie Ogbeide Ihama, an immediate past House of Reps member, representing Oredo Federal Constituency.

The party’s State Publicity Secretary, Ogie Vasco, said in a statement yesterday that the State Working Committee (SWC) upheld their expulsion.

Vasco, who didn’t give details of their expulsion or offenses, said the decision was taken yesterday at a meeting attended by nine members of the SWC at the party secretariat.

“The SWC has extensively deliberated on the issue and resolved to expel, with immediate effect, Chief Dan Orbih, National Vice Chairman South South; Rt Hon Phillip Shaibu, and upheld the expulsion of Hon. Ogbeide Ihama from Ward 2, Oredo LGA,” he said.

Earlier, the party’s executive in Oredo Local Government said it had expelled Ogbeide-Ihama from the party over alleged anti-party activities.

Recall that Ogbeide-Ihama, alongside Shaibu, last week donated their governorship campaign secretariats and facilities to the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Shaibu later doubled down by announcing his support for the governorship candidate of the APC.

Meanwhile, Chief Orbih, in a telephone interview with our correspondent, described the actions of the SWC as the work of idle people and busy bodies.

“When a group of persons who are idle and have nothing to do sit down to make pronouncements that are unconstitutional, it only shows that they are ignorant of the constitution of the party.

“They don’t have any power to even suspend or expel anybody without strictly following the provisions of the party’s constitution,” he said.
