Edo: PDP clears Shaibu, 9 other aspirants for primary

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday cleared the Edo State deputy governor, Philip Shaibu, and nine other aspirants, who picked nomination forms to contest the state governorship primary.

This was confirmed to journalists at the party headquarters in Abuja by the party’s National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature.

All the ten aspirants were also issued the Provisional Clearance Certificate by the leadership of the party on Tuesday.

The Edo State governorship primary is scheduled to be held on February 22, while the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has slated the main election for September 21.

The sale of forms, which started January 17, came to an end on Thursday last week.

The cleared aspirants were screened by the Governor Caleb Mutfwang-led Screening Committee on Monday at the PDP national secretariat in Abuja.

Governor Mutfwang, after the screening exercise, also assured aspirants that the party would ensure fairness for all contestants, adding that he was also a beneficiary of the party’s equity.

Those cleared to contest the primary aside Shaibu were Asue Ighodalo, Blessing Igbinedion, Anselm Ojezua, Felix Akhabue, Martin Uhomoibhi, Umoru Hadizat, Osaro Onaiwu, Arthur Esene and Omoregie Ihama.
