Edo launches operation puff Adder

In its determination to reduce crime, the Edo state police command has launched the anti-crime fighting team code named Operation puff Adder.

Launching the operation on Thursday in Benin, the state commissioner of Police, DanMallam Muhammed, said operation Puff Adder is launched in the the state in compliance with the directive of the Inspector General of Police, Abubakar Adamu, to reduce crime.

According to him, operation puff Adder will help checkmate the activities of criminals and their sponsors and subsequently reduce crimes to the barest minimum in the state.

” Operation puff Adder is based on the principle of community policing, intelligence led policing, synergy with other security agencies, convoy/motorised patrols, stop and search operation among others,”

The commissioner explained that Edo being the gateway to both the Southern and Northern part of the country,social activities in the state is high, leading to upsurge in criminal vices like cultism, kidnapping, armed robbery among others.

He noted that the strategy put in place since assumption of office has led to the arrest of 356 suspects involved in various crimes, 230 charged to Court while 49 suspects have been convicted.

Also speaking, the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 5 headquarters, Benin, Dibal Yakadi, noted that after the 2019 election, the nation witnessed upsurge in heinous crimes as a results of the proliferation of light weapon in the hand of some unscrupulous elements.

Represented by Assistant Police Commissioner, Emmanuel Effiom, Yakadi appealed to Royal fathers, religion leaders, civil society groups among other to cooperate and partners with the police, as their assistance will go a long way in reducing crime in the state.
