Edo gov’ship: Idahosa urges forgiveness for Oshiomhole, advocates votes for APC

Charles Idahosa, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, has urged voters to forgive Senator Adams Oshiomhole for his role in bringing Governor Godwin Obaseki to power in 2016 and to support the APC’s candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, in the September 21 governorship election.

At a Ward-to-Ward campaign event in Ehor, Uhunmwode Local Government Area, Idahosa criticised Governor Obaseki’s administration, alleging a failure to deliver on promises.

He claimed, “Obaseki’s government has transformed the Technical College in Uhunmwode into a garri factory, where locals are now trained in garri processing instead of receiving proper education.

“The Ehor Pineapple Juice Factory and the Technical College, which the local government boasts of are now a shadow of themselves since the PDP-led government refused to restore the factory to give the agrarian community youths a source of livelihood.”

He praised Oshiomhole’s legacy, noting that “The only road tarred in Uhunmwode was constructed by the former governor.”

Oshiomhole, addressing the crowd, urged them to vote for APC and emphasised that Okpebholo’s vision would benefit Uhunmwode.

He said Senator Monday Okpebholo is committed to revitalising the Technical College and improving local infrastructure, promising to provide necessary resources and complete road tarring within his first 100 days in office.

In response, Chris Nehikhare, Edo State Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, defended Obaseki’s administration, stating that it has hired more teachers than any previous government.

He accused Idahosa of self-interest and suggested that the issues with the Ehor Juice Factory are a result of Idahosa’s own negligence, asserting, “Charles Idahosa’s greed led him to leave the APC for the PDP, and his actions have adversely affected the development of his area.”
