Edo gov’ship: APC demands SSG’s resignation after nomination as PDP dep gov

The All Progressives Congress (APC), Edo State chapter, has called on Osarodion Ogie, the Secretary to the State Government, to resign from office in order to pursue his ambition as deputy governor alongside the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Asue Ighodaro, in the upcoming September 21 election.

In a statement issued by the state party chairman, Jarrett Tenebe, the APC emphasized that Ogie cannot hold a public office while simultaneously running for another public position.

Tenebe argued that this dual role not only contravenes public service rules but also misuses public resources for private political gains.

He further accused Ogie of using state resources, such as official vehicles and logistics, for his election campaign, describing it as a misuse of taxpayers’ money and a form of corruption.

The APC warned that if Ogie fails to resign voluntarily, the party will pursue both civil and criminal actions against him for what they deem to be financial misconduct and abuse of office.

In response, the State Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, defended Ogie, asserting that the SSG’s actions are within the bounds of the law and do not violate any regulations. He criticized the APC’s stance as misinformed and urged the party to focus on substantive issues rather than engaging in unnecessary controversy.

“It is not the place of the APC to dictate when the SSG should resign,” Nehikhare added, suggesting that the party should prioritize outlining their plans for improving the state rather than engaging in political bickering.
