As campaign for the September 19 governorship election in Edo state intensify, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the state has called on the All Progressives Congress, APC to stop incessant attack on its members and supporters in the state.
Addressing journalists in Benin, the state PDP publicity secretary, Chris Nehikhare, alleged that the APC has continued unwarranted attack on its members across the state.
He said the recent attack was on its members and supporters in Agbede, in Etsako West local government at the house of its leader, Jah Usman and Ekpedo, ward 3 in Akoko-Edo local governments of the state.
According to him, the Police has arrested two persons in connection with the Agbede’s attack.
He alleged that the attack increased following the results of the opinion poll sponsored by the APC.
“APC unknown to us commissioned a reputable poll company to carry out an opinion poll to ascertain its chances of winning the governorship election. But the result showed that the PDP wins overwhelming in at least 16 out of the 18 local governments, leaving only two councils for APC in the state”
“So they are perpetuating the violence with a view to get the election postponed. We want the election to hold,” he said
Ikhine who urged eligible voters in the area to vote PDP and protect their votes for continuity, maintained that PDP is sure of victory at the poll due largely to the number of trusted and reliable personalities it parades.
Responding, the spokesperson of the APC campaign council,John Mayaki, while denying the allegation, said Inspector General of Police warning gave credence to their petition that the PDP is perpetuating violence in the state.
He said their supporters were attacked at Ososo, Apana, Ekpedo, Jattu, and other local government by PDP thugs .
