The Edo State government said it will commence the arrest of persons caught dumping refuse indiscriminately across the state.
The decision was contained in a statement by the General Manager, Edo State Waste Management Board, Osadebamen Charles Imariagbe.
He warned residents dumping refuse indiscriminately around Benin City and other parts of the state to desist from the practice or risk arrest.
Imariagbe described the practice of dumping refuse in public places, median separator, walkways and road side as a setback in Benin City.
According to him, Obaseki’s administration prohibits indiscriminate dumping of refuse in the state and that the government will arrest those caught in the uncivilized act.
He advised members of the public, shop owners, market women and households to give their wastes to government-accredited waste managers to avoid being caught and prosecuted.
