The  Edo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Henry Benamaisia has disclosed that the state government in collaboration with the agency has commenced the arrest of owners of unregistered vehicles and covered plate numbers in the state.
Benamaisia disclosed this yesterday shortly after the state security meeting with the governor and other service chiefs in the state.

He said the agency has discovered that criminals move around the state with unregistered plate numbers and that the clampdown is to check the crime rate in the state.
The FRSC boss further said the state government has already set up a task force to arrest violators.
He said, “The Federal Government has approved 5,000 plate numbers for Edo State. All plate numbers must not be covered and as security agencies, from this week will embark on a massive operation to arrest offenders.”
Moreso, he said it is now compulsory for all commercial vehicles in Edo state to install speed limit devices, saying it is a major cause of accidents and deaths on the road.
“The governor has given us the mandate to arrest any commercial bus driver not using speed limit device. If you are a commercial driver in Edo State without the speed limit device, it is now an offence and you will be arrested,” he said.
Also speaking governor, Godwin Obaseki, disclosed that the state has deployed over 120 security personnel to forests in the state, particularly the Ovia Forest to dislodge criminals from the area.
He said the council is working to deploy more security personnel to other forests across the state to prevent criminals from operating in the area.
According to him, the Security Council is working proactively to ensure the security of lives and property in communities where farmers and herders clashes are prevalent.
