Edo community protests over plot to withdraw security

Residents of Inikorogha community in Ovia South West LGA of Edo State have staged a peaceful protest over alleged plans by some powerful individuals to withdraw security personnel from the area.

 The protesters carried placards with inscriptions such as, “We need peace to do our businesses in Inikorogha”, “Armed robbers come here to rape and rob our wives and women” and “Come to our aid, Mr Governor.

 Speaking on behalf of the protesters, Chairman, Inikorogha Community, Friday Benson, said they were enjoying relative peace in the area which should not be truncated in whatever guise.

 He said, “Prior to now, evil attacks were meted out on our community, but today, we have a strong presence of security with the deployment of special forces at Mile 3. Their presence has checkmated insecurity being perpetrated in our land by unscrupulous elements.’’

 He appealed to the governor to see to the extension and increase of security presence in the community.

 Also speaking, the Chairman of Elders Council, Philip Polo, appealed to the governor for more deployment of security personnel to the area.

 He said, “We want to thank Governor Obaseki; he has performed well in terms of infrastructure, but sadly that gave birth to some unscrupulous criminals that have made Inikorogha uninhabitable.

 “We have information that they are trying to see to the withdrawal of the special forces responsible for peace; rather, we are appealing for more security here.”
