The  house also placed the impeached speaker on three-months suspension to allow room for investigation.

The House thereafter elected member representing Esan West constituency, Marcus Onobun, as its new speaker.

The impeachment iss sequel to a motion moved by the leader of the House, Mr Henry Okhuarobo, member representing  Ikpoba-Okha and seconded by the member representing Akoko-Edo 1, Yekini Idaiye.

The member representing Igueben, Ephraim Aluebhosele, nominated the new speaker in a motion which was seconded by the member representing Akoko-Edo 11,  Emmanuel Agbaje.

The Deputy Speaker, Roland Asoro, who presided over the plenary after the impeachment of Okiye, put the motion to a voice vote and Onobun was unanimously elected by the members at plenary.

The new speaker Onobun  thereafter dissolved the house standing committees and relieved all the appointees of the house of their appointments.

He also constituted a three-man committee to look into the financial records of the house under the leadership of the former speaker.

Until Okiye’s impeachment all seemed well among the 10 lawmakers.

The state assembly has been engulfed in crisis following the inauguration of 10 lawmakers, leaving out 14 other lawmakers elect.

Okiye, whom Daily Trust has reached out to, is yet to comment on his impeachment.
