Edo APC Demands Obaseki’s Resignation Over Comment on governance

The Edo State Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Col David Imuse (rtd), has called on the Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki, to resign from office with immediate effect following a statement credited to him that governance will take back seat in the state.

Obaseki had on Friday, during the inauguration of the state Presidential campaign council, said he would abandon governance for politics in the forthcoming 2023 elections to work for the emergence of the party’s presidential candidate, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku.

In a statement signed by the Assistant State Publicity Secretary of the party, Osehobo Victor Ofure, Imuse demanded the resignation of the state governor.

He said the Edo people were aware that Governor Obaseki had run out of ideas since he had been sworn in for a second term in office.

He said, “The result has been for the Governor to stay away from Benin City, while pretending to be busy searching for investors, signing agreements or MOUs or campaigning in an election in which he is not a candidate.”

“Obaseki, who did not attend the PDP Presidential primary with a single delegate, is claiming that he wants to abandon governance for politics. It is laughable that the PDP Presidential candidate, Atiku, is busy attending to his numerous investments in Dubai and France while other PDP governors like campaign director general, Governor Udom Emmanuel and Aminu Tambuwal are still doing their jobs, Obaseki is abandoning governance for politics.

“This goes to confirm our conclusion that Edo State today is not a democracy but a dictatorship with Mr. Godwin Obaseki as the Executive, the legislature and the Judiciary, hence our call for the governor to resign with immediate effect”
