The Edo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Cyril Mathew, has disclosed that 71 people died in various road accidents across the state between January and October this year.
Mathew, who disclosed this in an interview with journalists, said 370 passengers were also injured within the period under review.
He said, “From January to September this year, we recorded a total of 154 accidents. 71 people were killed while 370 were injured.”
While breaking down the figure, the sector commander said, in January, 22 passengers were killed; four in February and 11 in March.
He said five people died in April, seven in May, four in June, one in July and August each, nine in September and 11 in October.

He noted that the casualty figure was an improvement compared to last year, which had 98 within the same period.
He attributed the causes of most of the crashes to include break failure, overspending, dangerous driving, use of phones while driving and route violation.
