Ahead of the September 19 governorship election in Edo State, the state Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), in the state has sensitised young female voters on electoral process.
Speaking during the event in Benin, Edo INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mr. Johnson Alalibo, said the programme was to ensure that young female voters were actively involved in the electoral process.

Represented by the Edo INEC administrative secretary, Mr Etim Umoh, the REC said the event was organised in collaboration with the European Centre for Electoral Support (ECES).
“The programme was designed to ensure that young female voters are not disenfranchised and marginalised during the governorship election,” he said.
He noted that there was low participation of young female voters in the electoral process, adding that they constituted a large percentage of voters who do not participate in the electoral process.
In his address, the Senior Project Officer, European Centre for Electoral Support (ECES), Mr Sylvestre Somo, said the EU was proud to be part of the initiative which sought to mobilise energetic young female voters to be part of the electoral process.
